Victor (Vie) H. Larsen Jr.

Victor (Vie) H. Larsen Jr., passed away on Nov. 7, 2006, at the Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Vie was born April 7, 1927, to Victor H. and Glennette Larsen, in Soquel, Calif., near Santa Cruz. He graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1944, and immediately joined the U.S. Navy. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, as a seaman first class USNR, on Aug. 13, 1946, he began is life long career of being self-employed.

He managed an apple orchard in Bonny Doon, Calif., had Vic's Texaco, near Pasadena, Calif., enjoyed working with his hands as a carpenter and mechanic in Orangevale, Calif. He moved to Napa, Calif., where he enjoyed clearing and developing land for the vineyards. His passion was cutting firewood for use as a heating fuel. He was one not to waste this natural resource.

Vie married his current wife of 37 years, Millicent (Milli) Clapham, on June 2, 1969, in Reno, Nev. They lived in the Napa Valley for 25 years were Vie owned and operated Vic's Woodyard.

Upon retiring in 1992, they moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, where they purchased more than 300 acres of forest. Vic then formed Larsen's Timber and cleared and logged, by himself, the land. He developed the home sites, built the roads, brought power and phone on to the property. He loved the natural beauty of the forest, the land and nature.

They sold the "ranch" and moved to Dalton Gardens, Idaho, in the summer of 2003. Vie enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He liked to plant and grow his vegetables and flower gardens. Most of all, he loved being with his family.

Victor is survived by his wife, Millicent Larsen; his five children, Diana Gayle Reed of Berryville, Ark., Kenneth Wayne Larsen of Coarsegold, Calif., Vicki Joy Duncan and her husband Bill Duncan of Oroville, Calif., Guy Philip Larsen and his wife Maureen Larsen of Angwin, Calif., and Charles Victor Larsen and his wife Jeanette Larsen of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; nine grandchildren, Shawn, Christopher, Ericka, Michael, Adam, Alicia, Daniel, Brenden and Cameren. He also has eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving him are his two sisters, Betty Walker of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Pearl Wood and her husband Richard Wood of Potter Valley, Calif.; his four sisters-in-law, Adrienne Estes of Calistoga, Calif., Mary Matteri and her husband Robert Matteri of Sun Lakes, Ariz., Pamela Ippoliti and her husband Victor Ippoliti of Ace, Texas, and Althea Baumeister of Ukiah, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. His father and mother preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel, in Hayden, Idaho. A reception and celebration of his life will be held immediately following the service at the chapel. Private burial will take place prior to the service.
