Sandpoint Lions Club defines community spirit
Are you thankful?
It's interesting that people answer that question in different ways.
For most of us, all we have to do is look around to be thankful for family, friends and a safe place to live. Many people also answer they are thankful for their health.
Thanksgiving is an opportunity for us to be thankful for our blessings. At the same time it's good to remember there are many people in our town, county, state, country and world who have very little to be thankful for.
If you are reading this paper, there is an assumption you know where your next meal is coming from.
Do you know how liberating that is?
As we enter the holiday season, it's wonderful to live in an area that looks out for those in need.
The Sandpoint Lions Club is gearing up to guarantee that hundreds of Bonner County kids will have Christmas and families will have Christmas dinner with the annual Toys for Tots drive.
The Lions give of their own time to collect toys, pass out meals and run fundraisers like Turkey Bingo.
A person doesn't have to ask Sandpoint Lions if they are thankful. They are.
They understand the responsibilities we all have to help our neighbors. They believe that community service comes above selfish wants.
We have a lot to be thankful for this holiday season. On the top of my list, shortly after family, friends and health, there is a special place for the men and women in red, the Sandpoint Lions.
See if you could give the Lions a hand this season with either a cash donation or volunteer time. They'll never ask for it because they are too busy helping our neighbors.
Happy Thanksgiving and thank you Sandpoint Lions.
