Community's generosity helped feed the hungry
At this traditional time of giving thanks for bountiful harvests, the Bonner County Master Gardeners would like to thank the generous gardeners of our community for donating a total of 4,570 pounds of produce to the three local food banks the very first year we have sponsored the Plant A Row for the Hungry program. Congratulations for your participation in a successful effort. That's over two tons of food, folks!
Plant A Row is sponsored nationally by the Garden Writers Association, and locally by the Bonner County Master Gardeners. The challenge to the gardeners of our area is to simply plant a little extra produce designated to be donated to the nearest food bank, then to pick it and any other extra fruits or vegetables from the garden and bring it in to the Bonner Community Food Bank on Fifth Avenue in Sandpoint, West Bonner County Food Bank in Oldtown, or Clark Fork Food Bank at the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Our challenge for 2007 is to beat our total for this year, which will bring us closer to meeting the nutritional needs of our own community with fresh locally produced veggies and fruits.
Again, good job, Bonner County!
