Bypass won't harm Sand Creek, views

| November 27, 2006 8:00 PM

What bypass? You mean after 50 years of whining and pleading the highway department is finely going ahead with a bypass.

Does that mean they are going to cover up our view of the hobo jungle and the railroad? Oh please tell me they are not going to cover up the backside view of those high-rise condos, because they remind me so much of the Hanoi Hilton. And after our city fathers fought so hard to get them approved so they would cover up the scenic view of our lake and mountains. It sounds like to me there is just too much cover up here. And, those people who are trying to get it stopped or change direction, please, pay attention to the next few lines of this statement.

"The bypass is going through as designed." It was signed into law by Congress in the early stages of the interstate highway system. (There will be no bottlenecks) or reduction in travel on any highway systems where federal money is applied."

So, if your attorney has the same smirk on his face as President Bush has while he is taking your money, bend over and grab your ankles. If you're concerned in any way that dredging any part of Sand Creek during this construction process would somehow disrupt its well-being, please remember that Sand Creek built the delta that Sandpoint is built on and continues to drop its sediment and change its course yearly. Surely, dredging out some of its sludge won't deter its purpose.

If you insist on throwing your money at something, try cleaning up the west bank of the slough and plant some flowers. After all, from the bypass your town will look like the back side of an outhouse.
