Missing hunter discovered dead

SANDPOINT — A Kootenai County man who had been seen since Sunday morning was found dead in the Blanchard area where he had gone hunting, according to the Bonner County Sheriff Elaine Savage.

Members of Priest River Search and Rescue located the body of Robert Arndt, 62, of Spirit Lake on Monday on a skid trail not far from where he had been dropped off for a hunting excursion, said Savage.

Arndt had pre-existing medical problems, but authorities said the final cause of death has not yet been established.

Savage said it took the rescue team about an hour to locate Arndt in fairly rough terrain.

The discovery of Arndt's body was one of two missing person calls the Bonner County Sheriff's Department responded to in the past two days.

After receiving a phone call regarding a missing snowboarder at 2:46 a.m., BCSD contacted Schweitzer Ski Patrol. Members of the ski patrol eventually found Gary Miller on the west side of Schweitzer Mountain at 10:45 a.m. Monday.

Other than being very cold, wet, tired and experiencing a sore right knee, authorities say Miller sustained no life-threatening injuries.
