Many, including Republicans, fought to protect our rights

| October 9, 2006 9:00 PM

If a couple of ding dongs from Dover want to call Republicans fascists, blind, and forgetful as to what the Constitution stands for, I say go for it, that is their right.

But I was a little confused as to why they would use President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Vice President Wallace as an example for upholding the Constitution and fighting fascism.

Is that the same FDR who tried to purge the Supreme Court in 1937 and congressional recalcitrants in 1938. Was that the same FDR who herded more than a 100,000 Japanese into "concentration" camps across the West. Yeah, that's a real constitutionalist there.

Then there's Henry Wallace who helped form the Progressive Party in 1948, which was littered with communists and backed by Stalin and the Soviet empire.

Of course, neither man was un-American when considering their entire careers.

There are a lot of Republicans who have fought and died for this country to preserve our First Amendment, and I just wish the ding dongs of this country would use a little more responsibility in its use.
