Barbara Jean Remmers, 85

Barbara Jean Remmers, 85, a long-time resident of Sandpoint, Idaho, passed away, Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, in Sandpoint.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at the First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint with Pastor Dave Olson officiating.

Barbara was born in Findlay, Ohio, on July 21, 1921, to Merle W. and Gladys V. (Simon) Fenimore. She married W.E. "Bill" Remmers on May 27, 1939 in St. Louis, Mo.

During World War II she sold war bonds and worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" in an aircraft factory in Memphis, Tenn. The family moved to Sandpoint in 1959 and Barb began working as a secretary for the chamber of commerce, retiring after 25 years of dedicated service in 1985.

She became an Avon representative in 1987, retiring at the age of 83 in 2004. She was a longtime member of the Sandpoint Lady Elks as well as a member of Beta Sigma Phi and the First Lutheran Church.

Barbara was an avid reader, she loved to do crossword puzzles, and was a great cook. She also enjoyed her rose garden, a passion passed on from her father.

Barbara will be truly and deeply missed by her loving husband of 67 years , Bill Remmers of Sandpoint; and three children, Sherry (Les) Gropp of Boise, Idaho, Holly (Dick) Woods of Walton, Ore., and a son Steven "Rex" (Sheri) Remmers of Sandpoint. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Kathleen Sue; and her brother, Howard Fenimore.
