Kathleen Fae Kammeyer, 84
Kathleen Kammeyer passed away peacefully on Sept. 26 while a resident of the Tekoa Care Center after living with a stoke since 1987.
Kathleen was born May 31, 1922, the daughter of Charles W. and Mary (Whitesell) Mingus at the family's home in Palouse, Wash.
She grew up, graduated from Palouse High School and, on Nov. 26, 1941, married Marvin Kammeyer. The couple made their home in Pullman, Wash., until they retired from Washington State University in 1974.
Kathleen enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom caring for her family, baking, canning and sewing.
Her many hobbies included craftwork, ceramics, beadwork, photography, flower gardening, flower arranging, and watching and identifying birds.
She and Marvin loved the outdoors and traveling. Their travels included every state this side of the Mississippi River and camping numerous places throughout the Northwest and Canada, especially at Samowen Campground on Pend Orielle Lake near Hope, Idaho. After going there since 1952, they decided to spend their retired years in a home overlooking this spectacular lake. They continued to camp and travel and found many good friends through Good Sam and The Rainbow Chasers.
Marvin preceded Kathleen in death in 2003.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Erp and husband Mike of Spokane, Wash., and Jan Shaul and husband Clint of Clarkston, Wash.; two sisters, Arnetta Tompkins and Letha Merry; two brothers, Max Mingus and Charles (Chuck) Mingus Jr.; two grandchildren, Crystal (Royer) Bailey and Stephanie (Royer) Singleton and three great grandchildren, Sarah, Isaac and Orion.
A joint memorial service for Kathleen and Marvin will be held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 20 at the Palouse Federated Church in Palouse. Memorial gifts may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
Kramer Funeral Home of Palouse, Wash. is handling the arrangements.
