Vote our 'career politicians' out

| October 21, 2006 9:00 PM

Wouldn't it be nice to see some new faces in politics? Politicians who have not been bought off, who don't have a long-established network of corporate and party connections, and are not receiving perks for their vote?

You should not vote for a candidate simply because they are loyal Republicans or Democrats. You should instead consider voting for the one who best represents a desire to bring unity to our government, embracing non-partisan tactics. Our antiquated two-party system only pits one party against the other, and nothing gets done!

Why shouldn't candidates simply run their own personal platform? Could it be because the money and endorsements aren't there, or the fact that we have the propensity to vote within our chosen party because it's what we have always done, regardless of who the candidate is? Our Congress is usually bickering amongst themselves and making power plays.

Like a gang of kids in a school yard, they flex their partisan muscles and try to scare the other party off, or buy them off. The old adage, "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours," has been the norm for too long. This behavior accomplishes nothing and is not in the best interests of our country.

Consider voting for a fresh, new, untainted face! Vote for the person you know to be honest and hard-working. Get the career politicians out of office and vote your conscience, not your party and their money. A limit of two terms should apply to anyone who is running for public office, and should hopefully some day become law.
