Kyle S. Petersen
Kyle was born on Aug. 27, 1973, in Sandpoint, Idaho, where he enjoyed growing up with his family and many good friends.
A memorial service was held on Oct. 8, 2006, in Portland, Ore.
He was a good student, loved the beach, scouting, soccer, acting, music, bicycling, and the outdoors.
He graduated from high school in Corvallis, Ore., where he moved with his family and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in environmental science at Oregon State University with a focus in communication, and later his master's of science degree in forestry soils at the University of Washington.
As a youth he worked for Northwest Youth Corps becoming a crew leader. He worked for World Conser-vation Corps in wetlands/stream restoration and later as an organic-based horticulturist.
Kyle, a naturalist, had great spirit and was loved and admired by many. He worked with groups who valued the preservation of the earth and a just society.
An accomplished guitarist, keyboardist, percussionist, and band member, he had begun recording in Portland at the time he died at 33.
He was a good son and brother and his spirit continues with us.
He is survived by his father, Peter Overton of Arizona; mother Kris Petersen of Oregon; brothers Zach Ufkes of Washington and David Ufkes of California, brother Brian Genrich of Oregon, sister Mariel Genrich of Oregon; and grandmother Elsie Petersen in Texas.
