This election really does matter

| October 28, 2006 9:00 PM

Nationally, statewide and locally, it's hard to deny that these mid-term elections are important.

If you're not registered, get down to the courthouse and register; or register at the polls. If you're registered, vote. If you're going to be out of down, turn in your absentee ballot.

In case you missed it, the Daily Bee endorsed local commission candidates last week. Here's the recap:

? District 1 — Democrat Todd Crossett over Republican Bud Mueller.

? District 3 — Write-in candidate Karl Dye over Republican candidate Lewis Rich and Wayne Stotts, independent.

What's coming up:

? Statewide races, including legislative seats in both the state House and Senate.

The key races in District 1 are incumbent Shawn Keough, R, against challenger Jim Ramsey, D, for the Senate seat; Republican Eric Anderson against Democrat Steve Elgar for the 1A representative seat; and Republican George Eskridge facing Democrat Bob Wynhausen for the 1B House seat. In District 2, Republican Joyce Broadsword is facing Democrat Steve Johnson for the state Senate seat.

? Local races, including assessor; and statewide seats, including the race between Butch Otter and Jerry Brady for governor; could prove pivotal.

The Bee will announce its additional endorsements next week. Tune in.
