Sandpoint defeats Eisenhower, 3- 1
SANDPOINT — Solid midfield play by senior Stephanie Bell and the quick strike scoring of Becca Stone led Sandpoint over Eisenhower High School 3-1 Friday at Centennial Field.
"That was the best effort so far of the season," said Bulldogs' coach Adam Tajan. "We played the full 80 minutes, not letting up for even a split second."
Stone scored the first two goals for the Bulldogs (2-1-1), and Bell added a goal and an assist along with her slick play in the middle controlling the possession.
"The midfield is starting to solidify," said Tajan. "Bell is figuring out her role; distribution."
The lone goal for Eisenhower came on a 30-foot high floater from about 40 feet out that squeezed between the crossbar and goalie Stephanie Fuqua's hands. Brittany Clawson had a shot sail a foot over the crossbar, and Brittany Oakley stung the crossbar as the Bulldogs tallied 18 shots on goal.
Sandpoint faces another stiff test from a Washington school today, when they host Kennewick at noon at War Memorial Field. Later, the boys team will host Coeur d' Alene at 6 p.m., also at Memorial.

? Girls cross country team wins again
LIBBY, MONT — Two meets, two dominating performances from the Sandpoint girls' cross country team, as they beat out ten teams, including Montana power Flathead High School, to win the Libby Invitational Friday afternoon.
Megan Bartlett edged Kat Vardell by seven seconds in the three-mile race, finishing at 19:09 as the girls finished first and second overall. The two sophomores switched positions from the first race of the season, won by Vardell.
"They're just going to bully each other all year," said head coach Matt Brass of the duo. "They're just tough. There was a girl that tried keeping up with them and she just go abused."
The boys team finished second to Flathead High School, whom Brass said was as tough a school as they would face all year. They were paced by Steve Teran, Adrian Mitchell and David Householter, who finished 9-11th overall respectively. Teran finished in 17:04 as the trio finished in a pack.
The Bulldogs will race in the Silverwood Invitational next Saturday.
