Bonner General welcomes new physicians
Bonner General Hospital is proud to welcome three new physicians to our staff; Dr. Charles Maile and Drs. Shay and Candie Richardson.
Next time you find yourself in the radiology department at BGH, you just might get an opportunity to meet Dr. Maile, a radiologist who moved here from the Minneapolis area. He and his wife have been coming to the Sandpoint area for about the last five years, drawn to its beauty and the friendliness of its residents.
In fact, the Mailes were planning to retire here, having bought some property in Sagle, when a career opportunity at BGH prompted them to reconsider their plans and make the move earlier.
Dr. Maile's expertise in diagnostic radiology will be a welcome addition to our hospital and a great asset for our patients. Before he moved to Sandpoint, he completed six years as chief of radiology at North Memorial Medial Center in Robbinsdale, Minn., where he was with the same practice since 1985. He also served as the chair of the Medical Staff Quality Improvement Committee, which further illustrates his involvement and experience in hospital direction and affairs.
Dr. Maile is passionate about helping patients through diagnostic techniques and technology. While in medical school at the University of Michigan and at his internship at the University of Iowa, Dr. Maile had thought of becoming an internist, but found out he enjoyed the discovery of diagnostics and went on to further study at Duke University.
Later, he spent two years as an instructor at the University of Minnesota doing mainly abdominal imaging before becoming an assistant professor. Since then he has been exposed to many different aspects of radiology, including mammography and breast health.
Also new to BGH are Dr. Shay Richardson and his wife, Dr. Candie Richardson, both in the Emergency Department. This young couple has proven to be a breath of fresh air for both patients and staff. Both Dr. Richardsons have a passion for the ever-changing and unpredictable world of emergency medicine.
Dr. Shay Richardson graduated from Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn., after which he went on to medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He kept an open mind as to a specialty, but found that he liked the challenge of Emergency Medicine above all else.
A self-described night owl, the long hours in the E.R. don't seem to phase Dr. Shay Richardson and he admits he likes the variable schedule. However, his wife, Dr. Candie Richardson says she is more of a day person. However, the couple's infant son has helped condition her to the longer hours.
Dr. Candie Richardson went to college at the University of Alabama and then made the move to Tennessee to attend medical school, where her interest in emergency medicine began to emerge. For Dr. Candie Richardson, the ability to help stabilize patients makes her work very rewarding.
Though the couple shares a workplace, they rarely, if ever, share shifts. This schedule allows them the opportunity to both spend time with their son, as well as enjoy the activities that Sandpoint has to offer.
After researching locations all over Idaho, they had heard about our community through a friend in Colorado, and after looking into it, decided it just might be the place for them. Dr. Candie Richardson sums it up by saying, "Well, we drove over the Long Bridge and knew this was it."
So, if you see any of the new doctors here at the hospital or out and about in town, make sure you give them a big Sandpoint welcome. Their passion and experience are a great addition to both our hospital and our community.
