Justin E. 'Jim' Miller, 90

Justin E. "Jim" Miller, 90, passed away on Sept. 8, 2006, at his home in Hope, Idaho.

Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, at Lakeview Funeral home in Sandpoint, Idaho. Memorial Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clark Fork, Idaho. Inurnment will follow at the Hope Cemetery in Hope.

Jim was born to Edward A. and Janet (McInaney) Miller in Roundup, Mont., on March 18, 1916.

Jim spent most of his early years in Sandpoint, part of the extensive McInaney/Bopp/Parkins/Eckman clan.

His mother taught school locally and his father, Edward A. Miller ran stores for various lumber companies in the area, including Weyerhaeuser. The family moved to Milwaukee, Wis., in 1929 and to Minneapolis, Minn., two years later.

He graduated from the University of Minnesota and the St. Paul College of Law.

Match-making friends introduced him to Marjorie Cummins Miller in 1939. They were married in St. Paul on Aug. 29, 1940, and raised their five children in Pasadena, Calif. Jim and Marjorie celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2001.

He worked for the St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company in St. Paul, New Orleans, Denver and Los Angeles until his retirement in 1974.

Jim resided in Hope for 30 years, spending part of each winter in Hemet, Calif.

He was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman, camper, softball player, reader and story teller.

His warm humor and incredible knowledge of history, prose and poetry will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Anne E. Chapman (John) of Redwood City, Calif., Justin E. Jr. (Andrea) of Portland, Ore., Patricia of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Susan (Jonathan Matti) of Tucson, Ariz., and Peggy of Missoula, Mont.; his 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marjorie.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund (P.O.Box 279, Sandpoint, Idaho 83864).
