Let's band together and hold Idaho BOE accountable

| September 16, 2006 9:00 PM

The most recent assessment notices reflect increases ordered by the State Board of Equalization. My newest assessments are 65 percent to 170 percent higher than 2005 assessments and considerably higher than the initial 2006 Bonner County assessments. They are also 22 percent to 93 percent higher than my corrected 2006 assessments that were determined by the assessors office and the Bonner County Board of Equalization based on actual sales of comparable property and other pertinent data.

For many people the newest assessments are much higher than the previous exaggerated assessments and the state offers no recourse or option to appeal.

This is ridiculous. Many people are about to pay at least twice as much in taxes as they should.

The state tax assessment methodology is clearly grossly inaccurate and unjust. The system is broke and needs to be fixed. The State Board of Equalization should be accountable for their actions and it is unjust that we should have no recourse to appeal their unfair assessments. They are essentially robbing us of money that we would otherwise use to buy food, healthcare, heat, our kids college tuition, and so on.

If you have an interest in banning together to seek corrective action or if you are a competent attorney in this area of law and have a desire to assist, please call me at 265-4285.
