SAGLE — Three teenagers from Clark Fork were seriously injured in a high-speed crash on Talache Road on Saturday.

Idaho State Police said Cody Pitts was speeding north on Talache Road when he lost control of the 1990 Mercury Cougar he was driving on a curve near the Mirror Lake Road intersection. Pitts was traveling about 80 mph when he entered the curve, ISP said.

The sedan went airborne, clipped a tree, spun halfway around and hit two more trees, state police said. The vehicle came to rest against trees 25 feet down an embankment.

The crash happened shortly before 5 p.m.

Only one of passengers, 17-year-old Kaile Boward, was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to ISP. Boward, the front-seat passenger, was taken to Bonner General Hospital.

A nursing supervisor on Monday said Boward's condition was stable.

Pitts,19, was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency crews, ISP said. He was taken to Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d'Alene.

A hospital spokeswoman said on Monday that Pitts remained in critical condition.

A back-seat passenger, 16-year-old Lindsey Johnson, was ejected from the vehicle and taken by helicopter to Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane, Wash. Idaho State Police said Johnson's was critical on Sunday.

A nursing supervisor at Deaconess angrily declined to say what Boward's condition was on Monday.
