Accident briefly closes Highway 200

| September 19, 2006 9:00 PM

HOPE — Two motorists were injured Tuesday morning after a dump truck plowed into a tractor-trailer pulling 50-foot power boat on Highway 200. The crash closed the highway for several hours as crews hurried to mop up a diesel fuel spill.

According to Idaho State Police, Henry E. Williams, 79, of Fruitland was eastbound on Highway 200 in a 1995 Peterbuilt dump truck as he approached Kramer Resort at 9:49 a.m.

Larry J. Davis, 37, of Sagle was a pulling out of the marina to go eastward when Williams drove around the pilot car and slammed into the back of Davis' 1994 GMC tractor-trailer.

The impact of the crash knocked the boat off its trailer and into a ditch. Williams' truck overturned, dumping its load of dirt and rocks and rupturing a 150-gallon diesel tank on the truck, which began flowing toward the lake.

Crews were able to stop the spill from reaching the water to clear the highway for traffic use.

Both drivers were transported to Bonner General Hospial.

Wiliams was cited for reckless driving.
