SANDPOINT — Sandpoint came out on fire, as scoring machine Becca Stone buried two early goals and the Bulldogs hung on to beat Coeur d'Alene 2-1 Thursday afternoon in Inland Empire League action at Centennial Field.

After dominating Central Valley earlier in the week and still getting shut out, the Bulldogs (5-6-2, 3-3-1) and Stone made it a point of emphasis to capitalize when they had the chances. Stone finished assists by Brittany Oakley and Brittany Clawson to build a 2-0 lead 20 minutes into the game.

"All week we've been talking about starting off strong and finishing opportunities," said Sandpoint coach Adam Tajan, whose team has played from behind for most of their games this season. "Becca has been our finisher. She had two chances in the first 20 minutes and buried them both; finally we're up instead of down."

The league-leading Vikings (6-2 IEL) were plagued by a slow start and forced to play catch up the remainder of the game. Megan O'Rourke finished a nice bending corner kick by Marisa Poorboy to make it 2-1 and finish the scoring.

"Heart; we didn't want it, they did, period," said Vikings' coach Tarragh Carr on the difference in the match. "In the second half we came out firing and played with passion."
