Tax commission is example of government gone awry

| September 25, 2006 9:00 PM

Frankenstein was a creature created to emulate life. He wavered between good and evil, finally killing his creator. Is there any better example depicting the failures of our tax system?

The appointed Idaho State Tax Commission in Boise is a classic example of government gone awry. They declare they are only following the law. The local assessor mimics the same cover. We elect supposedly intelligent people to manage our government. We can remove elected officials who disappoint us. But removing appointed officials is not an easy task. Public outcry is a start, but not the total answer.

The tax code must be rewritten. How do we accomplish this? First, we must decide to fight to save our homes. Second, we unite to meet and plan our strategy and goals. All Bonner County homeowners should recognize the importance of such a gathering.

Words alone will not solve this problem. We will declare our intentions to file a class action lawsuit. Our goal is to save homes. We will challenge the authority of the tax commission to foist upon us "trending" and other vague and badly-administered taxing concepts. We are victims of flawed law and an out-of-date constitution. Like Frankenstein, the Idaho Tax Commission has reached the end of its usefulness. Let's put it out of its own misery.

An announcement will be forthcoming as to where and when we will have this important kickoff to regain control of our homes and lives.
