Web site helps estimate taxes

| September 27, 2006 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT — Bonner County residents can estimate what their tax bill will be using information provided on the county's Web site and a link on the State Tax Commission Web site.

The county has placed information on its Web site information enabling taxpayers to calculate the tax bills they will receive in November 2006 that will be based on the trending ordered by the State Tax Commission in August.

The information can be found at the county's Web site (www.co.bonner.id.us) by clicking on the tab in the far right margin entitled "Bonner County tax information 2006." That will bring you to the area where the information is presented in three different formats.

The first is a link to the State Tax Commission Web site that presents representative examples of some of the tax code areas in Bonner County. Directions on this page tell how to calculate your estimated tax bill using that information. It also provides examples of assessment notices enabling you to locate the key components needed for those calculations.

The middle link shows what the levy rate is for each taxing district located in Bonner County. The information found in both the header and footer of this presentation provides directions on using it to calculate your tax bill.

The last link provides the sum total for each tax code area in Bonner County. The tax code area for your particular piece(s) of property can be found on the re-assessment notice sent out by the Bonner County commissioners earlier this month.

If you did not receive a re-assessment notice, please contact the Bonner Couunty Assessor's office at 265-1440 to request that a copy be sent to you.

If you need assistance in using the information on the Web site, please phone commissioners at 265-1438, the treasurer at 265-1433 or the county clerk at 265-1432.
