Laws must be changed to protect the animals

| April 4, 2007 9:00 PM

I am concerned with the county and all the horses in our area that are starving. Living on Rapid Lightning, we have had to see at least three horses starve all winter long. Two of us have tried to work with our animal control officer with no luck.

One horse died a month ago — its body parts are everywhere. The other two were finally taken by a woman who is very secretive. She had to put the mare down. The stud is still alive — so I have heard.

The calls to our animal control officer started in September. I told him at that time that the horses wouldn't make it through the winter. Why is this happening?

I have read in the Daily Bee of the woman in Samuels. Then the abuse in Vay. What is going on? If our animal control officer isn't able to judge a starving horse or his hands are tied, then we need to have the laws changed. We still have three horses on High Road who are not being taken care of. I have heard another is dead in the drive way. Nothing is being done.

Charges were to be made a month back — they weren't. We have also heard the county wants to hush this all up. Or is it the Sheriff's office? I'm not sure nor am I sure if this letter will be printed.

We need to help the animals. We need an animal control officer who knows what he is doing. How hard is it to tell if an amimal is starving?

We can't allow this problem to get further out of hand. How many horses need to suffer and die?
