NIC professor should be fired for her remarks

| April 4, 2007 9:00 PM

Re "Police Look Into Threats," 3/17.

The main villains in this article are made out to be the people who responded to the NIC English professor's outrageous comments.

For those of you who missed it, she said: "Republicans should be executed. I believe in the death penalty. I love it. I think we should use it every day. First we line up everyone who can't think and right behind them, anyone who's ever voted Republican."

The article is slanted to make the responders look like the only bad guys and the professor gets a slap on the wrist.

The student who objected to her remarks said, "… any hate speech directed at her is completely egregious…" Wait a minute. The professor started the hate speech. Isn't advocating murder against a specific group of people hate speech?

Professor Jessica Bryan is poisoning young minds with her blatant intolerance for viewpoints other than her own.

In addition, she is advocating illegal behavior. Would you want your kids listening an English professor who says things like this?

The woman clearly lacks self discipline and impulse control. Considering this action of hers, don't you wonder what she might do next? She should be summarily dismissed. Even if she has tenure, her horrific comments constitute behavior egregious enough to bypass tenure protection.

And then she can join the hall of fame that includes Hitler, Pol Pot, Saddam Hussein and others who advocate killing people who disagree with them.
