Hanson representing Sandpoint at All-Star game
COEUR d'ALENE — Senior shooting guard Drake Hanson is the lone Sandpoint representative in the fourth annual statewide all-star game this Saturday, April 14 at NIC's Christianson Gym in Coeur d'Alene. The games are sanctioned by the Idaho High School Activities Association.
The sharp shooting guard was the Bulldogs' best shooter from 3-point range, and should be a threat to win the 3-point shootout. Last year Sandpoint's Ashleigh Mire won the girls 3-point contest, making 7/10 from behind the arc.
Josh Hawks, Becky Lowther and Katie Poston will compete representing Bonners Ferry, and Micah Smith will represent Priest River.
The event will be a doubleheader format with high school seniors playing on teams representing northern and southern Idaho. The competition begins with the girls' game at 1 p.m. followed by the boys' game at 3:30 p.m. The event will include a three-point shooting contest with the girls competing against the boys and a dunk contest between the games.
Players were chosen by a selection committee of sportswriters and broadcasters from throughout the state. The committee selected 12 players, two alternates and coaches for the four teams. The South swept both contests last season, defeating the North boys 109-101, and crushing the North Girls 103-46.
Admission to the game is $6 for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens. Tickets will be available at the door, at sponsor locations and at local area high schools.
