Bulldogs finish third at home meet

SANDPOINT — Will Andrews had personal bests in both the shot put and discus to lead the Sandpoint boys to a third place finish at the Sandpoint Invitational track meet Tuesday at the high school.

"He works hard and as a senior he has that sense of urgency," said Bulldogs' track coach Dave DeMers. "He's a good athlete and I think he's going to rise up at state."

David Householter won the mile and freshman Cody Hecker surprised everyone by winning the long jump by soaring more than 20-feet

Desi Hutchins won the 100-meter dash, and also ran a leg on the winning 4X100 team as the Sandpoint girls finished in third place, not far behind Post Falls and Coeur d'Alene. Brooke DeMers won the high jump with a season-best 5 feet, 2 inches.

Clark Fork's Bailey Hewitt — second at state last year as a freshman in the 100 hurdles — cruised to victory in the 100 hurdles, leaving the meet before she had a chance to double with the 300 hurdles.

Coeur d'Alene used depth to win both the boys and the girls meets.

"As a team we're coming along," said Vikings' coach Tim Burnside. "Straight off of spring break I expected us to be flat, but I was pleasantly surprised."

Sandpoint's next meet is Saturday at Coeur d'Alene.
