? Pearson paces Bulldog golf team with an 85 at a difficult Avondale Golf Course

HAYDEN LAKE — Coeur d'Alene's Tyler Johnson and Lewiston's Kyler Nisson tied for low score with matching 77s, but the Vikings outdistanced the Bengals by five strokes to win an eight-team match at Avondale Golf and Tennis Club on Thursday.

Wyatt Pearson led the Bulldogs with an 85, Dan Sommerfield shot a 91 and Coleman Frank, in his first varsity match, broke 100. Bulldogs' coach Mike Keough said it was a great learning experience for his team, noting Avondale can be a tough track when playing it for the first time and the greens are much faster than anything they practice on.

"We played well at times, but had enough mistakes to make it look like a bad day," said Keough, noting Nick Hawkins hit three drives out of bounds and took a 12 on one hole en route to a 103. "That can take the wind out of your sails. There were other times where he was hitting the ball well."

Sandpoint heads to Coeur d'Alene for another meet on Monday.
