Cd'A blanks Bulldogs
SANDPOINT — Sophomore Amber Coburn was sharp on the mound, and senior Monica Conroy delivered three hits and five RBIs at the plate as Coeur d'Alene bounced back from their first loss of the year to blank Sandpoint 15-0 Friday afternoon at Travers Park.
Coburn pitched a three-hit, 10 strikeout gem in the shutout, relying on a solid defense behind her to make plays.
"I went out there knowing I had the team behind me and just threw the best I could," said Coburn, who also added two hits and two RBI at the plate.
Jenna DeLong had three hits, including two triples, for the defending 5A state champion Vikings (14-1, 8-1), who rebounded from Thursday's loss to Lake City.
Kim Guercio laced a double, and Brinda Bunn robbed a base hit with a diving catch in left field to provide the highlights for Sandpoint (0-8, 0-6). Head coach Derek Dickinson said his team struggled with a quality rise ball from Coburn, but liked his hitters' approach at the plate.
"Even though we lost some battles, we got some quality at-bats," he said.
Sandpoint hosts Moscow today in a doubleheader at Travers Park at noon.
