A few people ruined POAC student art display

| April 14, 2007 9:00 PM

We have maintained an office in the Old Powerhouse for a number of years and have always looked forward to the beginning of each month when all the arts in the building is changed.

When the art is changed at month's end, a small army of volunteers show up and work as much as 10 hours to display and catalogue each piece in the show.

This last month, local schools displayed their art. I would watch entire families come in to see their family member's art and could not help notice the family's pride seeing their art on display in an art show.

Parents would stop by on their way home from work to see their son's or daughter's art and often stay for an hour or more comparing their children's art to others in the class. In short, it was a wonderful gathering of what Sandpoint is all about.

After about two weeks, art started disappearing from the walls. It is likely that it was being taken by other students either as a prank or out of jealousy, or for some other reason beyond our comprehension.

The end result was that POAC had to remove all the art to prevent more theft. It would appear that a small minority again has ruined something special for quite a number of people.
