Bulldog girls win home meet

SANDPOINT — Megan Bartlett won the 3,200 and the 1,600 meters, and five girls won individual events as the Sandpoint girls track team ran away with the SHS/Litehouse Track Meet Tuesday at Sandpoint High School.

Brooke DeMers won the high jump, Desi Hutchings won the 200 meters, Chantelle Garcia won the triple jump, and Kelly Adams won the long jump despite having tried it for the first time on Monday. The Bulldogs finished 35 points ahead of Lake City.

"Our field events were awesome," said Bulldogs' coach Dave DeMers of his girls' team. "This group has never tasted that kind of success. The girls are coming together, I think we're going to surprise some people."

Will Andrews won the discus, and took second in the shot put despite throwing for a personal best as the boys' team finished in third place. Tyrell Nelson won the triple jump, and Josh Kopsa won the 200 for the Bulldogs.

Lake City's John Coyle took an early lead and set a blistering pace in the boys' mile, never getting pushed and posting a very respectable 4:22 as the Lake City boys beat Lakeland by 22 points in winning the boys meet.
