Bulldogs boys have best golf outing of seasons

BLANCHARD — Dan Sommerfield shot a season-best 76, and Wyatt Pearson a carrer-low 79 as the Sandpoint boys had their best outing of the year, placing fifth out of 10 teams in the Sandpoint Invitational at sunny Stoneridge Golf Course Monday afternoon.

"My short irons were really on," said Pearson of the key to finally breaking 80. "I hit a lot of greens in regulation — then two putts for par."

Nick Hawkins shot an 81, and Colton Story an 82 as Sandpoint posted a 318 team score, by far their best outing of the year.

"I feel like a beaming dad here," said Bulldogs' coach Mike Keough, noting consistency was the key. "We aren't coming in with the big holes; nothing is derailing them."

Bonnie Snow led the Bulldog girls with a 100, and Morgan Braun shot a season-low 105.

"She's (Braun) been dropping strokes," said girls' coach Jim Alsager. "She dropped another 12 today, and that was in a tournament."

Alsager said his 3-6 golfers all showed drastic improvement. Sandlly Whalen, Ella Gentz and Michole Nevenhoven all shot their best rounds of the season.

Lewiston won both the boys and girls team titles. Lewiston's Kyler Nilson shot a 68 and Post Falls' Genna Dodge a 79 to take medalist honors.
