Bonner County will become a dumping ground

I have heard the people who would like to see an integrated approach to milfoil control, time and time again be referred to as the "vocal minority" with "vocal minority" being used as if it were a dirty word.

This puzzles me. After all, it is a vocal minority that makes the laws, elects the president, declares war. This vocal minority though is referred to as patriotic, the backbone of society. I do believe, that in this country, the vocal minority is only a negative pejorative if it's opinion runs contrary to corporate interests.

Our government, in the guise of the Department of Agriculture, chemical corporations and the land grant universities have had a long and prosperous relationship.

As more and more places just say no to the great gods mammon and habit, places like Bonner County will become the dumping grounds of a carcinogenic industry, just as the devastated, post-exploitation nations have become the final bastion of the tobacco industry.

There will come a time when it is too late to make the decision between an individuals rights of property and the health of the planet and all those on it. To quote a T-shirt, those vast receptacles of knowledge, " Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize that we can't eat money."
