Bulldogs rebound to claim win

| April 30, 2007 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the comeback win, which sealed a sweep over St. Maries in non-league softball action Monday afternoon at sunny Travers Park.

Rachel Hammack delivered a two-run, walk-off double, one of her three hits on the game, to cap the wild comeback.

"The nightcap was quite a thriller," said Bulldogs' coach Derek Dickinson. "We had three errors in the eighth inning, which put them up 6-3, but came back and took advantage of their wild pitching and then Rachel delivered."

Molly Givens picked up both of the victories on the day, tossing a two-hit shutout as the Bulldogs (5-17) won the opener 13-0. She then relieved a solid effort from Sara Murphy as the Bulldogs rallied for the 7-6 win in extra innings of the second game.

"Sara threw really well," said Dickinson. "It's unfortunate she didn't get the win."

Sandpoint will celebrate senior day, with a post-game ceremony, when they host Priest River at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
