Another fantastic Festival season is under way

| August 6, 2007 9:00 PM

Sure, the fireworks had to be canceled.

However, that is likely to be the only disappointing note at this year's Festival at Sandpoint. And so far, the annual summer concert series is getting a top grade.

From Johnny Lang to Lyle Lovett to the Spokane Symphony, it was a week packed with great music and awesome concerts.

If you weren't able to go to any of the concerts, you missed out. But there is good news — the Festival will kick off its second week on Thursday with Reckless Kelly, a hard-playing Texas band with roots in Idaho and Oregon; and headliner Robert Earl Keen.

Following the next night for "Phat Phriday" is Jackie Green and headliners Los Lonely Boys, with their alternative rock music and eclectic sound.

Saturday's "Silver Celebration" is to the bright future of the Festival and two musical stars on the rise — Josh Ritter and Madeleine Peyroux. Wrapping things up in the "Grand Finale" concert, featuring top-notch violinist Mark O'Connor and the Spokane Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gary Sheldon.

If you haven't attended a concert this year, you owe it to yourself to go. Whether you bring along dinner, or buy something from Festival Street, there is nothing better than dinner under the stars, kicking back on a blanket surrounded by friends and family.

You owe it to yourself to attend and, since there are plenty of tickets available, there's no reason not to go.
