Catherine E. 'Kay' Cridland, 74

Catherine "Kay" E. Cridland, 74, passed away Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, in Sandpoint, Idaho, after a brief battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007, at Coffelt's Funeral Chapel, 109 N. Division Ave. in Sandpoint. Pastor Jon Pomeroy and Father Dennis C. Day will officiate.

Kay was born June 20, 1933, in Miles City, Mont., to Arthur and Sally (Frankfurter) Pembroke. She grew up in and attended school in Miles City.

She married Leonard Cridland on June 24, 1950, in Miles City.

In 1968, they moved to Billings, Mont., and then to Bozeman and Belgrade, Mont., for Leonard's job. In 1971, they moved to Alaska, living there for three years on the Alaska-Canada border. They returned to the lower United States in 1974 to Sandpoint.

Her early years in Sandpoint were spent tending bar at the Tam O'Shanter and working for Modern Cleaners as a seamstress.

Kay was a wonderful seamstress and stayed at home to raise her children. She knitted numerous sweaters with various designs for family and friends and made prom and wedding dresses.

Kay was an excellent cook, always making meals for her family. She enjoyed watching television; her favorite programs were "Court TV" and "Walker, Texas Ranger."

Kay was an avid reader, especially Louis L'Amour and romance books. When her eyesight failed, she listened to books on tape.

She had a special love for her dog, "Muffin."

Kay was a member of the Eagles Lodge from 1965 to 2005, enjoying 40 years of fellowship.

She is survived by her daughters, Teri Thompson, Debbie (Bill) Ervin and Alesia (Chris) Schafer, all of Sandpoint, and Anita (Bob) Byers of Ponderay; a daughter-in-law, Corine Cridland of Spokane, Wash., brothers, Bobby Pembroke of Gaylord, Mich., and Harold (Val) Pembroke of Helena, Mont.; sisters, Mary Graham of Helena and Bunny (Rich) Numberg of Wibaux, Mont.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Ed; and grandson, Leonard Byers.
