Harry Louis Bauer, 94
Harry Louis Bauer, 94, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, in Coffelt's Funeral Chapel.
Interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Father Dennis C. Day, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, will be officiating.
Harry was born in Chicago, Ill., on Sept. 7, 1912, and graduated from high school in Chicago.
He graduated from Northwestern University, receiving his degree in journalism from the McDill School of Journalism. During this time he boxed in the Chicago area as a semi-professional.
In his youth, he drove cars from Chicago to Portland, Ore., and he would drive a car and tow another for the dealerships. He also worked in the logging camps in the Northwest as a lumberjack. He earned his pilot's license and flew private planes.
On Sept. 19, 1942, he married Dorothy E. Young in Chicago.
During World War II, he worked as an air traffic controller for the Army Air Corps. After the war he worked in journalism, operating his own branch advertising agency in the Chicago area until 1977.
After quitting work he lived in the Phoenix, Ariz., area until 1995 when he moved to Sandpoint.
He enjoyed golfing and feeding the geese and the wildlife of the area.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Shrine in Chicago.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Bauer of Sandpoint; two sons, Brian (and Marion) Bauer of Middleberry, Vt., and Steve Bauer of Sandpoint; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
