Voters deserved more notice on bond election

| August 27, 2007 9:00 PM

This is an outrage! More notice should have been given to the 1,400 eligible voters. Why did Westside not take a page from Sagle Fire and write grants and have fundraisers for their improvements instead of sneaking in a bond.

What if every taxing department did this? This is just not right. Sagle recently held several fundraisers to purchase a life-saving thermal imager. Not a bond. New building? Done. No bonds. New fire equipment? No bonds.

I've no qualms about new and improved equipment for our fire district. I do not like the way it was done. Sneaky and lazy. I personally wrote grants and held fundraisers for Sagle Fire District as a commissioner and winning a custom-built fire truck that cost the taxpayers zero. Other fundraisers were held and expenses chopped by an efficient crew, board and fire chief working together.

After moving from Sagle District, into Westside, I applied for the vacant commissioner seat. I was not accepted. Not accepted — I am not a professional grantwriter — free — and proven successful. It's unfortunate that the wonderful firefighters of this district are represented by a group of "good ol' boys."

Shame on you, Chief Tucker and commissioners!"
