Man jailed in shooting incident
CLARK FORK — A Bonner County man is facing two aggravated assault charges following a shooting incident on East Spring Creek Road on Tuesday.
There were no injuries as a result of the shooting, Undersheriff Charlie Dennis said.
Deputies were summoned to the 2000 block of East Spring Creek at about 3:40 p.m., after dispatchers received a report that Phillip Wesley Powers was suicidal and had pointed a firearm at another subject. Deputies arrived to shots being fired in their direction.
Powers, whose age was not available, fled into the woods and took cover, where he allegedly fired more shots toward deputies, according to Dennis.
Negotiations ensued and Powers emerged from the woods with a pistol pointed to his head. Negotiations continued and Powers finally surrendered the handgun.
He was taken into custody without incident, Dennis said. Powers apparently had a pre-existing injury, which was treated.
The incident remained under investigation on Tuesday night.
