Lightning storm halts game

| August 31, 2007 9:00 PM

POST FALLS — They tried — twice — but Mother Nature and act of God wouldn't let Sandpoint and Post Falls finish their scheduled high school football game Friday night.

The game will be resumed today at 2:30 p.m. with Post Falls leading 7-0 midway through the second quarter.

The game was first stopped with 7:31 left in the first quarter to allow an approaching thunder and lightning storm to pass over. Fans filed into the gym to wait out the storm, and play resumed after a delay of 1 hour, 24 minutes.

Post Falls took a 7-0 lead on Randy Hamilton's 7-yard run with 10:48 left in the second quarter.

At 9:06 p.m., there was a power outage at the field. A power pole caught on fire at the corner of 16th and Greensferry, and Post Falls police believe the pole was struck by lightning.

Less than 10 minutes later, officials decided to postpone the game until this afternoon.
