SANDPOINT — A Cocolalla teen accused of crashing her sport utility vehicle while text messaging pleaded guilty Friday to a reduced charge and was given a suspended jail sentence.

Danielle Suzanne Eich was fined $300 and ordered to pay $82 in court costs, according to court documents. She was also placed on a year's probation, a condition of which prohibits her from driving for 30 days.

A 30-day jail term was suspended and Eich was further ordered to attend a defensive-driving course.

A mobile phone seized as evidence in the case was returned.

Eich, 16, was charged with reckless driving and child endangerment following the June 5 rollover near the intersection of Dufort and Otts Basin roads. Eich's infant child was strapped into a safety seat placed on a front passenger seat, which was equipped with an airbag.

There were no serious injuries in the crash and the airbag did not inflate because it was not an impact collision, according to an Idaho State Police report.

In exchange for her plea, the reckless driving charge was amended to inattentive driving and the endangerment charge was dismissed, records show.
