CLARK FORK — Clark Fork used physical defense and timely scoring to erase an 11 point third quarter deficit and register a mild upset over 3A Bonners Ferry Thursday night in non-league girls basketball action in Clark Fork.

Shaina Gustafson had game-highs of 11 points and six steals, and helped spearhead a defensive fourth quarter in which the Cats (5-0) outscored Bonners Ferry 19-7 and put the game away.

"The girls played very aggressive and good defense determined the game," said Cats coach Dexter Vogel. "They stepped up, fought back and didn't quit. It was a great group effort with even scoring across the board."

Bailey Hewitt tallied eight points and six assists, Mandy Martin six points and 10 rebounds, Chelsea Macumber four points and seven rebounds and Amy Gannon eight points for the Cats. Megan Hess scored 10, reaching double figures for the fifth game this season. Vogel added that the win over a bigger school is a big confidence booster for his team.

Ashley Winkelseth and Samantha Hiatt each scored eight in the loss to lead the Badgers (3-4).
