City's neighborhoods are being threatened

| December 8, 2007 8:00 PM

My family and I have lived on Garden Street here in Sandpoint for more than 20 years. Along with our neighbors, we have watched with dismay as a three-story monstrosity is being constructed just across Olive to the east of us. We have now learned that the proposed Sandpoint Comprehensive Plan would, in fact, downsize our existing Residential B neighborhood so that the same type of eyesore being built on Olive could be built on our own street. We live on a quiet, dead-end street and never in our wildest dreams thought that such a thing might be allowed right next door to us.

This same downzoning is planned for almost half the other neighborhoods in Sandpoint. Don't assume your neighborhood is safe from invasion by these types of monstrosities. You'd better check with the city planning office and fine out for yourself if the proposed plan would downzone your neighborhood. As for my wife and me, we intend to start yelling long and loud about this ridiculous plan.
