Lakeside defeats Wampus Cats
CLARK FORK — Rian Miller posted a double double, capitalizing on second chance points on the offensive glass to lead Lakeside to a 49-36 win over Clark Fork in North Star League action Tuesday night in Clark Fork.
Miller finished with game highs of 17 points and 14 rebounds, most of which came on put backs under the basket.
"That's a good night in any league," said Knights coach Ron Miller of Rian's night. "We've been working on getting her to slow down. She's been in a hurry instead of squaring her shoulders and putting it back in."
Ruth Brunelle added nine points, eight rebounds and three assists for the Knights (4-6, 2-1 NSL), who outscored the Wampus Cats (7-4, 3-2 NSL) 12-1 in a decisive second quarter that proved to be the difference.
"We didn't let them transition us," said Miller, whose team had previously split games this year against Clark Fork. "We kept them in check and made them play half court."
Megan Hess led Clark Fork with 15 points, and Bailey Hewitt added eight points, five rebounds and three assists in the loss. Early foul trouble to two of the Cats' best players cost Clark Fork dearly.
"Foul trouble was it," said Cats coach Dexter Vogel. "When Bailey and Shaina (Gustafson) got three fouls in the second quarter, that was it right there."
