Friend seeks help for struggling resident

| December 22, 2007 8:00 PM

It always amazes me of the generosity of the people in Bonner County. When there is a need, they help.

There is a young woman living in our community. On Dec. 22, 2006, she found herself in surgery having three vertebras in her neck being chipped away and man-made vertebras being put back in as well as a rod down to hold her together, due to a rare cancer. On Dec. 28, 2006, she was back in surgery having the front vertebras removed and replaced. She went through weeks of daily radiation treatment. The cancer can return any time.

She is working two to three jobs just to pay rent and bills. Bankruptcy for her isn't an option. That says a lot about her character.

By Dec. 29, 2007, she has to come up with $3,500 for attorney fees to maintain joint custody, or lose what she already has. There isn't any help for her at legal aid, or state funded, and all the attorneys she has talked to, fees have to be paid up front and no pro bono available. An attorney has been found but needs $3,500 up front.

If you can find it in your heart to help this woman, please send your donation to P.O. Box 964, Sagle, ID 83860-0964, or stop by Panhandle State Bank.
