Vote against increases to property taxes

| December 24, 2007 8:00 PM

They're at it again, another property "tax" increase by those who are not accountable to taxpayers. Yep same old bunch of tax (levy, bond, assessment, etc.) and spend LPOSD who think all they have to do is wave their "tax" wand and property owners and renters (that's right, renters) will pay up.

They want another $11,700,000 to finish the most expensive elementary school in Bonner County history plus $5,100,000 for deferred maintenance (?) and $1,500,000 for Sagle classrooms. That leaves $1,700,000 for unspecified contingency funds (they decide?).

Now this will cost each of us only $183 per $100,000 of assessed valuation the first year and $174 the second. So say your home is valued at $300,000, this "tax" will cost "another" $549 a year on top what you're currently paying say $1,200, you then owe $1,749.

Renters will also get this "tax" as it will be passed on to you. If you rent a home valued at $300,000 you can expect to pay an additional $45.75 a month, a duplex valued at $500,000 expect to pay $38.13 more a month.

But wait, because this is a property tax increase our food, medical, phone, cable (satellite), electric/gas, propane, clothing, garbage, water, sewer and if it's possible gasoline will increase dramatically. How about this, before any of these boards, commissions, councils or state politicians raise our taxes, how about they cut the cost of government by, consolidating, and reducing the size of government. Vote no on property tax increases!
