U.S. can't be great with right-wing leadership

| December 31, 2007 8:00 PM

What Steve Brixen's thorough Dec. 27 guest opinion seems to suggest is that he wants more of George W. Bush. Besides honesty, the only difference between what Bush has done or tried to do and what Steve is looking for is dealing with illegal aliens.

As to our being disliked around the world, that isn't the right question. One can be disliked, yet respected. Unfortunately, we are only disliked.

But, in order to support another George Bush, one must honestly reflect on the question, "Are we better off today than we were eight years ago?" Considering that some historians, without the benefit of much hindsight, are already identifying Bush as the worst president this country has yet produced, the answer to that question is an emphatic no.

While many in Idaho may agree with Mr. Brixen, fortunately, 70 percent of Americans now reject the kind of leadership provided by Messrs. Bush and Cheney.

Steve, this is a great country and it can be great again, but not with the kind of leadership you're looking for.
