Local teams fare well on basketball court

RATHDRUM — Drake Hanson hit five of his six shots from 3-point range in the first half to push Sandpoint past Lakeland 61-46 in 4A Inland Empire League action.

Most of the Sandpoint (8-11, 3-8 IEL) damage came from the perimeter. The Bulldogs were 9 of 23 from 3-point range and Hanson made 6 of 9 from downtown to lead the way.

? Clark Fork 62, Mullan 31

CLARK FORK — Drew Wilkinson led Clark Fork with 15 points as they used a strong second half to blow the game open and double up Mullan 62-31 in NSL action Friday night in Clark Fork.

Point guard Mike Martin had a solid game running the show, tallying nine rebounds, six assists, four points, and most importantly from the floor general, zero turnovers.

"We played a great second half," said Cats' coach Brian Powell, whose team outscored Mullan 38-17 in the half. "That was the key to the game."

Clark Fork (9-6, 5-1) entertains Coeur d'Alene Charter, also 5-1 in North Star League play, in a battle for league supremacy on Tuesday.

CLARK FORK — Rayna Allen celebrated senior night with 30 points and nine steals, and freshman back court mate Shaina Gustafson added 14 points and nine thefts as Clark Fork had their best offensive output of the season in routing Mullan 74-36 Friday night in Clark Fork.

"We shot 50 percent from the field and that's what we've been struggling with," said Cats' coach Dexter Vogel, who likes his team's chances of grabbing a berth to state when the 1A playoffs start next week. "I think we have a pretty good chance. We're starting to move the ball more and we're shooting better."

Senior Lindsay McGinnis had her best game of the year, tallying a team-high seven rebounds to go with four points.

Fawn Story led Mullan with 22 points in the loss.

Clark Fork will play Mullan on Monday at Lakeland as the North Star League tournament commences.

? Sandpoint girls look to extend season tonight

Sandpoint travels to play Moscow for the 4A North loser-out game tonight at 6 p.m. in Moscow. Lakeland beat Moscow 46-24 on Thursday, and will face the winner next week in the double elimination tournament. Sandpoint lost a close game to Moscow in the opening round, and will be looking to avenge the loss tonight.
