Rock Creek Mine poses too great a risk to region

| February 3, 2007 8:00 PM

Does this sound familiar? This is a quote from a letter drafted by Montana's two representatives on the Northwest Power and Conservation Council. "The Northwest Power and Conservation Council is deeply concerned about the potential of negative, down-river impacts to fish, wildlife and overall water conditions in the Flathead and Columbia basins from the proposed Cline Mine just north of the Montana-British Columbia border on the North Fork of the Flathead River." (Spokesman Review, Jan. 19, 2007)

The people of Montana seem to feel concern on how others might be polluting their waters and wildlife. This sounds like a reasonable concern to me. Now let's bring this same regard and respect across another border and into Idaho. Who is going to put their foot down to big business and realize that the Rock Creek Mine is too much risk for an area as great as ours.
