Clark Fork defeats Cd'A Charter

CLARK FORK — In a showdown of the top two teams in the North Star League, Clark Fork put the game on the broad shoulders of 6-foot-6, 270-pound post Jared Broggi, and the sophomore delivered.

Broggi led the Cats (10-6, 5-1) with 18 points and 10 rebounds as they erased a 13-point half time deficit to beat Coeur d'Alene Charter 60-55 Tuesday night in Clark Fork.

"Broggi is a load down there; a real space-eater," said Panthers' coach Brent Looyenga. "We wanted to take Jeffres and Martin out of the game and some of their other guys hit big shots; they hung around and hung around."

The Panthers (15-3, 6-2) jumped out early behind the aggressive offense of David Baker and Josiah Menzies, who scored 24 and 15 respectively. The second half was then dominated by Clark Fork, which outscored Charter 39-21.

"We let them dictate pace in the first half and in the second half we followed our gameplan," said Cats' coach Brian Powell, who at halftime told his team to suck it up if they wanted the win. "You could feel the momentum swinging in the third quarter.

Thomas McMahon also posted a doube-double for the Cats with 13 points and 10 boards, and Mike Martin added 10 points and four assists as they chipped away at the lead all game. A Broggi put back with 45-seconds left gave Clark Fork their first lead of the game.

Clark Fork will get another stern test of Thursday, when Wallace visits. The North Star League race is tightening up as the state playoffs loom in the distance.
