Andrews signs with Montana State Northern

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint football standout Will Andrews will take his booming right leg and linebacking skills to Montana State Northern next season after signing a letter of intent Tuesday with the NAIA school in Havre.

"They're going after him as a punter, but he's a great linebacker as well," said Bulldogs' coach Mike Mitchell, noting the school from the Frontier Conference made the 6-foot-2, 230 pound Andrews a great offer.

Washington State was interested in Andrews as a punter, but were unwilling to offer any assistance, a common practice for Pac 10 teams, which often invite kickers and punters to walk on, then award a scholarship to whomever becomes the starter.

Mitchell said several other Bulldogs, including Kurt Stoll (RB/S), Austin Jones (OL), K.C. Abey (OL), Tyler Jinright (DB), Kyle Meschko (DB/WR) and Riley Flanigan (OL), are also entertaining offers from teams, many from the Frontier Conference. Wednesday was national letter of intent day for all football players to sign Division 1 scholarships.
