Joy V. Price
Joy V. Price died on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, after being diagnosed with cancer, in November 2006, for the third time.
Private family graveside services will be conducted in Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Joy was born in Sandpoint, Idaho, on April 14, 1927, to Alphonse and Leonie DeMers. She lived her childhood life in Sandpoint except for attending the second and seventh grades in Juneau, Alaska, at a Catholic school. Her father worked in the gold mines at Juneau. She lived with the Daymond Smith family when her mother died in 1944. She graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1945.
After graduation, Joy went to work in the finance department at the air depot in Spokane. Approximately a year and a half later she took a job in the phone company in Sandpoint until a position opened at the Von Cannon Bank.
In 1949, she married Robert Webb and moved to California where she worked for American Trust. She returned to Sandpoint in 1951 and gave birth to her only child. They divorced a short time later. She accepted a job with Hubbard and Davis car dealership where she met, and later married, her second husband, John Price. They moved to Louisville, Ky., for a brief period. Joy worked for a mahogany furniture company and a cigarette factory while living there.
Upon returning to Sandpoint in the mid 1950s she took a position as a finance technician for the U.S. Forest Service Ranger Station in Sandpoint. She divorced in 1968 after her stepchildren had graduated from high school. In 1972, the forests reorganized and Joy accepted a transfer to the Bonners Ferry Ranger District, where she worked until retiring in 1985 after completion of 30 years of service.
After retiring, Joy worked with her daughter for 12 years mailing brochures for Canadian companies to US travel agents. In her spare time, Joy loved to spend her time outdoors whether it was gardening, taking care of animals in need, shoveling snow, visiting with family, or neighbors. She will be remembered for her strength, courage, and especially her kind and loving heart. She was always there for each and every one of us.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Walter A DeMers, James C. DeMers, and Loren A DeMers and one stepdaughter Bonnie Price Curry. She is survived by her daughter Jackie (Larry) Glahe; granddaughter Joeli (Jeff) Martin; step-grandchildren Pam (Tom) Turpin, Kim (Rich) Schraner, Ann (Gregg) McFarland, Nikki (Justin) Paynter, Shana (Steve) O'Donnell, and Tyson (Sarah) Glahe.
