People need to recognize moose are wild animals

| February 14, 2007 8:00 PM

What part of wild do these people not understand? A wild animal is not something to be chased and definitely not pushing a child in a stroller.

A moose can turn on its haunches faster than a horse and can move at speeds far greater than any human can.

Yes, they do appear slow and gangly, but when provoked they have the grace and cunning of a rodeo bull and can be more deadly. As we, the general public, encroach on the habitat of these wild animals, their will be more incidents with them. Let's hope that someone will not try and get a picture of something that actually hunts, i.e. the cougar, wolf, or even the coyote.

In my opinion, that person chasing the moose with a stroller should be cited with child endangerment. It is even more dangerous than a person driving drunk with a child in the vehicle and just as irresponsible.

The saddest part of this whole situation is that when the moose follows its instincts and charges someone, it will be destroyed and all because a few ignorant people who felt it was their right to get a picture with a cell phone.

Let us all be more diligent as to what we are teaching our kids. Remember they learn by example.
